Cil Flores is a visual artist based in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines. She graduated with a BS Psychology degree at Silliman University, but her love for art and creativity has led her to pursue a career as an artist. As a 90s kid, her artistic influences mainly come from pop culture (cartoons and videogames), her own characters, and stories. She often draws inspiration from emotions and experiences
Flores considers her art as low brow and pop surrealism, emphasizing rock-like details, bright colors, and of course, her original character named “Clae.” Through these elements, she aims to portray situations, emotions, and personal experiences. These are all done through traditional acrylic painting, pen & ink, digital art, and sculptures.
Flores has participated in various group shows in her hometown for the past three years. Since her breakthrough in the Manila art scene last year, Flores has been participating in various art fairs and gallery shows in the metro such as Xavier Art Fest, Modern and Contemporary Art Festival, and Art in the Park. Her first solo show at Metro Gallery in 2023 entitled “Into the Unknown” delves into the artist’s emotions and experiences on becoming a full-time artist through acrylic paintings. Her recent solo show at Secret Fresh Gallery titled “Welcome to the Jungle” focuses on the artist’s experience as a full-time artist navigating through the jungle that is Metro Manila.
Flores was recently included in the “Street Dreams” Pop Surrealism group exhibition by Art+ Magazine, together with 50+ other low brow/pop surrealist artists in the Philippines.
Being an advocate for art, Flores has also participated in volunteer work for movements like One Billion Rising and art events that promote environmental awareness such as Recycle Me, The Life-giving Seagrass Exhibit, and Bahandi sa Kabakhawan—all aimed to raise awareness of the protection of seagrasses and mangroves.
